[Lasers] Fiber Optics

I have started doing some research on a technology company called Finisar. More specifically, this company works with a wide range of technology, as of late, mostly data storage, and data transfer. The technology also ranges from GPS, atomic-clocks, and my current favorite, 3D camera and gesture recognition. Currently laser application is a 13 Billion Dollar Industry, and is continuing to grow steadily. With this giant trend, it is becoming apparent that companies are investing heavily in these laser based technologies. I am currently looking into applications for these type of products. What seems to make the most sense at the moment lies within its ability to transfer large amounts of data at lightning fast speeds. Besides data transfer, I have been looking into lasers 3D sensing abilities, which could be used for gaming, 3D modeling, and interactive movements. The last application I looked into was with leisure medical applications, which doesn't sound like a huge market, but when you look at the 1.65 billion dollar company "cynosure", you'll find laser hair removal, skin rejuvenation, and body sculpting are the main factors for its success.

3D sensing technology is reaching point that can be a world changing challenge. It is beginning to use more sophisticated laser-imaging systems, making it more accurate, smaller, lower-powered, and less susceptible to errors. Keeping this in mind, i'd like everyone to think how this type of thing could change our our phones work, what if you could use your phone as a x-box kinect 3D sensing device.
